You can explore the vast open spaces, take in the stunning views, and be inspired by the natural beauty of God’s creation. With a diverse and independent culture, including seven Native American reservations, Montana needs church planters that are willing to go to the uttermost part of the earth.

From the grandeur of the Grand Tetons to the rugged beauty of the Bighorn Mountains, Wyoming is a state of stunning landscapes and outdoor activities. You can explore the vast open spaces and take in the breathtaking view. Wyoming also has a unique western history, which visitors can experience firsthand at the numerous museums, monuments, and historical sites. There is also a large need for new churches and ministers in Wyoming with only 13 churches in the entire state.
When you hear the word frontier, what does it recall? Is it old western stories with cowboys shooting it out with their six-shooters? Is it pioneers in covered wagons looking for their 320-acre homestead? Maybe it's Native Americans living in tepees and hunting buffalo? While those things may accurately reflect the history of the states that make up the Rocky Mountain District, that's not why we are Frontier Missions.
Most people are aware of what it means for an area to be rural. The National Rural Health Association defines rural as having fewer than 500 people per square mile. What you may not know is that there is a separate definition for what is considered frontier. In order for an area to be frontier, it must have six or fewer people per square mile, almost 1/100th of the definition for rural.
While there are some exceptions in each of the states that we serve, the vast majority of the counties in Montana, Utah and Wyoming meet this standard. The entire state of Wyoming for example has an average of 5.91 people per square mile.
This is what makes the Rocky Mountain District "Frontier." What makes us "Missions" is the unique challenges that we must overcome to reach the people in our district.
The greater Salt Lake City-Ogden-Provo metro area has 2.6 million people in it that are being reached by only six UPCI churches. Beyond the usual challenges of metro missions, you also have the added challenge of over 60% of the state being Mormon.
There are also over 20 Native American tribes living on and off over a dozen reservations in our three states. Some with their own languages, and all with their own cultures and traditions that must be understood to effectively reach them.
There are currently only 38 churches spread across a geographical area of 330,000 square miles. That's over 20% bigger than the state of Texas. There are over 5 million people in these three states as well, some living in towns and cities that are over an hour from the nearest church. This is our Frontier Missions field. Will you come and help?
